This is Coach Lovic's 20th year as head coach for the Jackets where he has amassed over 135 wins in his career. He has also won two conference titles, 1997 and 2004. Coach Lovic has had the honor of working with over 50 different SELC All Conference players, including 9 MCLA All Americans. He also won two divisional championships in the U17 Vail Lacrosse Shootout (2001, 2002) with the Southeast All Stars. Coach Lovic grew up in Baltimore, MD playing for Loyola Blakefield. He graduated from James Madison University in 1993. He took over the Tech program in 1997 while in graduate school in Atlanta. He currently plays for the Southern Empire Men's Lacrosse Club.
He was awarded the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) Coach of the Year in 2010 and the SELC Service Award in 2009. The Georgia Chapter of US Lacrosse honored Coach Lovic with induction into their US Lacrosse Chapter Hall of Fame in 2015 and Excellence in Growing the Game Award in 2011. Coach Lovic has also served as the director and owner of GT Lacrosse Camps since its inception in 2002. This past year he took the Jackets to their first ever Elite 8 appearance losing to the previous years national champions. Currently Coach Lovic serves as the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association's (MCLA) President, helping oversee the operations of the 200+ association of collegiate club lacrosse teams. He served as the MCLA Vice President for Competition from 2007-2012 and also as the SELC Vice President from 2004-2009. He resides in Atlanta, GA with his wife of 14 years, Beth, and their two year old son, Kade. |
Coach Freeman enters his seventh season on the sideline with the Jackets. Over that time he has helped guide the team to the SELC playoffs five times and the MCLA nationals once. Coach Freeman works mainly with the offense and goalies. He has overseen a steadily improving offensive unit over his time at Tech. His goalies have been named to the all conference team four times, been named conference defensive player of the year twice, and three times earned All American honors. On offense he has helped players achieve all conference honors nine times and one earn SELC rookie of the year.
Prior to coming to Tech, Coach Freeman played at Denison University where he was a member of the 2004 North Coast Athletic Conference championship team. Before that, he played for Troy Kemp at the McCallie School where he graduated as the school’s all- time leader in points and goals. Coach Freeman also played for Coach Lovic on two all-star teams that traveled to the Vail Shootout and won their division. Coach Freeman lives in East Lake with his wife Kate and their dog Bubbles. |
Coach Edmunds enters his sixth year on the jacket sidelines. Coach Edmunds works on both sides of the field in complimenting Coach lovic on defense and Coach Freeman in the offensive end. Edmunds started off his coaching career as the co-offensive coordinator at Wheeling Jesuit University. While at Wheeling Jesuit, Edmunds also worked with the team’s face-off and special teams and helped guide the Cardinals to their first top ten national ranking finishing the season as the ninth ranked team in the Division II National Poll. After a brief, yet successful one year stint at Wheeling Jesuit, Edmunds moved back to the familiar confines of the former Deep South Conference and took the Assistant Coaching position at conference rival Wingate University. While at Wingate he again worked as the team’s offensive coordinator. In 2005 Mat took over his alma mater program at Lees-McRae College as Head Coach. He was in Banner Elk for 5 years and coached 5 all conference players plus several players of the week and also took the team to their first post season conference tournament. Coach Edmunds is a native of Manchester, England and has much experience as a member of the England National Team since 1997. While with the National Team Edmunds won European Championship Gold Medals in 1997, 1999, and 2001. In the summer of 2006, Edmunds represented Wales at the 2006 World Field Lacrosse Championships held in London, Ontario. Mat averaged two points a game with seven goals and seven assists, leading Wales to a 13th place finish. Edmunds is a 2002 graduate of Lees-McRae College and competing as a Bobcat he was an All-Conference midfielder each year he played, (First Team ’99, ’00, ’01, Second Team ’02) and a pre-season All-American in the 2000 and 2002 seasons. During Edmunds’ first season as a Bobcat player he was also honored as the Deep South Conference’s freshman of the year in 1999 to go along with his First Team All-Conference honor. Upon graduating from Lees-McRae, Edmunds was invited to attend the Major League Lacrosse Combine. Along with his international experience and NCAA experiences as a coach and player, Mat continues to play the game today in Atlanta and for the Gin and Juice travel team out of the UK. Coach Edmunds serves also as our recruitment coordinator and currently lives in Columbus, GA with his wife Heather and 16 year old step daughter Emmy. |
